Formed in 1998 by graduates of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, the band quickly established itself as one of a small number of professional working big bands in Sydney.
The currnet line-up comprises musicians who hold tertiary music degrees in performance and composition, and has cemented itself as the hottest young big band in town.
Since 2004, under the direction of current MD Jason Isaac, the sydney metro big band has been pursuing new avenues in corporate and private function entertainment, with an already strong reputation amongst business and charity clientele, along with a ever-growing list of happy newlyweds.
Highly popular residencies at Soupplus and the El Rocco Jazz Cellar in 2005 & 2006 have led to a strong following of both serious jazz fans and people just after a great show, and some grooving music.
In addition, the sydney metro big band maintains a busy touring schedule, performing at both Australian and international jazz festivals, as well as fundraising events for school and community groups.
The band's interest in the promotion of jazz education takes them to a number of schools every year, where they not only perform with the students, but also offer workshops to the next generation of musicians.
